Project Panchdeep

It is the largest e-governance program to provide online facilities to employers and insured people for registration, payment of premium, disbursement of cash benefits and automated Medicare services to all insured people.


    1. IT enablement for registering an Employer and facilitate e-filing of statutory documents using e-forms. The Digital signature mechanism will be used for authentication in conformance with IT Act 2000.
    2. Insured Persons to receive their medical & other benefits effectively.
    3. Medical professionals would be able to offer efficient services to citizens including insured persons.
    4. Banks/ Financial Institutions & ESIC to have online & real time payment gateway mechanism & share information in electronic way.
    5. ESIC to ensure proactive & effective compliance to relevant laws including Information Technology Act, 2001 as per the Indian Constitution.
    6. Identification system to be introduced for Insured Person authentication & subsequent provision of services at ESIC hospitals / dispensaries / Branch Offices.
    7. The internal & external operations of ESIC to move from paper based to less paper operations.


    Project Panchdeep allows insured people to avail of medical services at any ESIC facility across India.

    With each Insured Person being given two biometric cards (one for himself and one for his family), family members can avail medical services even when the Insured Person is away at another location. The solution has also enabled automation, resulting in faster processing of claims, increased operational efficiency and improved decision making.


    Project Panchdeep has five components.

    1. Pehchan - includes all services related to identification, authentication and verification of Insured Persons (IPs) through the use of biometric cards.
    2. Milap - comprises of all services related to provisioning network and bandwidth.
    3. Pashan consists of services related to hardware for Data Centre, Disaster Recovery, desktops/PCs/Laptops and middleware
    4. Dhanwantri includes all services related to hospitals and dispensaries and
    5. Pragati for all services related to ERP modules.

    About ESI Scheme

    Employees’ State Insurance Scheme:

    ESI Scheme of India, is a multidimensional social security system tailored to provide socio-economic protection to worker population and their dependants covered under the scheme. Besides full medical care for self and dependants, that is admissible from day one of insurable employment, the insured persons are also entitled to a variety of cash benefits in times of physical distress due to sickness, temporary or permanent disablement etc. resulting in loss of earning capacity, the confinement in respect of insured women, dependants of insured persons who die in industrial accidents or because of employment injury or occupational hazard are entitled to a monthly pension called the dependants benefit.
